Tall herbaceous perennial spreading by rhizomes. Spikes of very showy and fragrant yellow flowers with striking red stamens. Blooms in summer on terminals of tall plants with broad bluish green corn-like leaves. Spreads in rich moist soil in sunny or semi-shady areas. Easy in good soil with enough moisture. A striking ginger which should be grown in more Deep South gardens where it is hardy. Native to India.
