Ilex cassine forma aureo-bractea

Yellow-berried Dahoon Holly

Evergreen shrub or small tree with bright green oval, slightly toothed leaves and abundant small bright berries(on female). Usually found in swampy conditions but grows well on ordinary garden soils that are acidic. Can be used for screen, hedge, or specimen. A very useful non-prickley evergreen holly for acid soils in the South. This selection with yellow rather than red berries was said by Fred Galle in his book on Holly to have been found by L. LeBruce in Georgetown, SC in 1928 and moved to Brookgreen Gardens, our original source.
