Butterfly Ginger

This tall herbaceous perennial spreads by rhizomes.  It bears showy spikes of very fragrant white flowers with a greenish or yellowish blotch.  It blooms in summer on terminals of tall plants with long corn-like leaves and spreads in rich moist soil in sunny or semi-shady areas.  It is easy in good soil with enough moisture and will grow in shallow water. A popular plant in warm climate gardens but relatively winter hardy with mulch. Native to India but often called Hawaiian Ginger Lily.
