Holly, Serviceberry Holly or Swamp Holly
This rare holly native to the Southern U.S. is a tall deciduous shrub or small tree with dull matte finish red fruits on long stems. Oval leaves to 4 inches long suggestive of Amelanchier leaves, hence "Shadbush Holly". This holly occurs along blackwater rivers and around some natural ponds. Little known in cultivation but the female plants with fruit are attractive and very unusual.
