Colocasia antiquorum 'Illustris'

Imperial Taro
This large tropical "Elephant Ear" is also listed as Colocasia esculenta var. antiquorum 'Illustris'. It is perennial in most of the South. The vivid green leaves are atriking being splashed with deep brownish purple color. Colocasias are true water lovers often grown aquatically. Given rich soil, sun, and ample water, these plants will thrive in ordinary garden soil and make quite a show during our long hot summers. Protect with good mulch in winter. Native to Polynesia
