This is a splendid compound leafed evergreen vine related to Akebia. In spring it bears white flowers tinged purple followed by sausage shaped fruit which is eaten in Asia. It grows in sandy, loamy, or clay soils that are moist but well-drained. It can grow in full sun to semi-shade. It is a good evergreen vine for a trellis or arbor. Stauntonia is native to Japan
