Hamamelis vernalis

Witchhazel, Vernal

This Witchhazel is a medium size rounded deciduous shrub native to the Ozark region of south central U.S. It produces abundant small reddish or yellow strap petal fragrant flowers on the bare branches in late winter or very early spring. Usually has excellent yellow fall color but unfortunately many plants tend to be marcescent which means hold old brown leaves over the winter.  It is adaptable to a variety of soil and moisture conditions in sun or semi-shade.
