Kentucky Coffeetree

A medium size rather slow growing deciduous tree native to the midwestern U.S.  Hillier's Manual of Trees and Shrubs says: "one of the most handsome of all hardy trees". The large compound leaves are pink tinted when unfolding and turn yellow in fall. The large seeds from the fat pods were apparantly once used as a coffee substitute. Plant in open area with good soil that is well-drained.
