Lindera strychnifolia

Japanese Evergreen Spicebush

This Asian shrub is a beautiful evergreen spicebush with glossy, rather heart-shaped leaves about 3 inches broad and with prominent veins. The flowers are greenish yellow but not very showy and the berries are black. The plant is worth growing for the attractive foliage alone. It is not well known in the U.S. and not widely available. It has done very well in our garden here in Aiken, South Carolina in semi-shade.
