Ilex verticillata 'Winter Red (female)'

Winterberry Holly 'Winter Red'
Winterberry Holly is a small to medium size multi-stem decidous shrub found in moist to wet soils over much of the eastern U.S. The female plants produce masses of very showy red berries on the bare stems and make a striking effect in late fall and winter. Two forms, northern and southern, are similar but the northern form tends to be more dwarf and blooms at a different time requiring a specific pollenator. This is a large rounded clone of the southern form which produces profuse red berries that retain their color. Considered by many to be the best winterberry. See 'Southern Gentleman' for pollinator.
