Ilex glabra (male)

Inkberry Holly

Ilex glabra, the Inkberry or Gallberry Holly is a very hardy evergreen shrub found on moist acid soil in much of coastal North America. It is a versatile ornamental shrub for garden use and can be a neat and attractive shrub in sunny sites with acid soil that is moist or irrigated. Berries on female plants are normally black and don't show up very well in the dark green foliage but this male pollenator is needed for fuit set on female plants including the white-berried form. Bees produce good honey from Gallberry flowers.
