Gardenia jasminoides 'Rosedown Star'

Single-flowered Gardenia

Gardenia 'Rosedown Star' is an evergreen shrub with glossy leaves and fragrant single star-like white flowers followed by showy orange fruits (hips). We obtained this plant years ago from the former Cedar Lane Farms Nursery in Madison, Georgia whose owner Jane Symmes had obtained it from historic Rosedown Plantation, St. Francesville, LA.  Plant Gardenia in moist but well-drained acidic soil in semi-shade. This Gardenia may have been listed as Gardenia thunbergii but is almost surely Gardenia jasminoides which is native to eastern Asia.
