Witch Alder Cultivar

Fothergilla gardenii is typically a small deciduous shrub 3 to 4 feet tall.  It is related to Witchhazel and occurs in the coastal plain of the southeastern U.S.  It is found in moist peaty habitats but is adaptable to most garden conditions in sun or semi-shade and is hardy and popular well north of it's native range.  It is valued for its showy white bottle-brush like flowers in spring and for fall color.  This variety was selected at the Morris Arboretum in Pennsylvania and is notable for the glaucous blue color of the foliage.  It does not seem to have the really special fall color of some others.
