Clethra alnifolia 'Ruby Spice'

Pink Summersweet
Clethra alnifolia and the southern Clethra tomentosa are stoloniferous deciduous shrubs commonly called Summersweet or Sweet Pepperbush. They form colonies in moist acid soil and make good garden subjects. They are valued for their terminal spikes of fragrant white flowers in summer. Plant in sun or semi-shade and provide adequate moisture. This variety is a pink flowered selection of the normally white flowered Clethra. It is generally less tall than C. alnifolia 'Rosea'. This relatively new clone (formerly 'Connecticut Pink') selected by Dr. Richard Jaynes is the most intense pink we have seen. Clethra alnifolia is native to eastern U.S.
