Zelkova serrata

Japanese Zelkova
Japanese Zelkova is a large elm-like deciduous shade tree with ascending branches. In Japan it is said to be an important timber tree and favorite bonsai subject but here according to Dirr, Manual of Woody Landscape Plants it is a "very handsome tree.....well suited to lawns, residential streets, parks [and] large areas....does well in the South and should be used more for streets and urban areas than it is"
