Sorbus alnifolia

Mountainash, Korean
Mountainash is generally a cool climate plant not suited to hot climate areas. This deciduous Korean tree has simple finely toothed leaves rather than the compound leaves of other species of Mountainash. This species has showy pink to scarlet fruit. Dirr (Manual of Woody Landscape Plants) says: "The fruits can be spectaclar and, during a heavy flowering year, it is the equal of any fruiting tree." While Dirr considers it "a possibility for use in the South (Zone 7-B)" he goes on to say: "Mountainash and heat, particularly high night temperatures, are diametrically opposed.
