Quercus virginiana ''Bok Tower''
(Dwarf ? ) Live Oak
The Southern Live Oak needs no description in the southern U.S. where it is native. The large spreading moss-draped evergreen trees are an iconic southern feature. The one we offer here is from acorns collected at the famous Bok Tower Gardens in central Florida from a "tree" that is most unusual. Surrounded by specimens that are normal-looking Live Oaks this dense trunkless "tree" is only about 8' tall but grows outward and not up. It covers about 30 feet of ground. We can't promise that the progeny will have this unusual growth habit but hope some of you wilth space in zones 8 and 9 will experiment and let us know.
