Dogwood, Hongkong evergreen
This evergreen dogwood native in southeast Asia is probably cloeely related to Cornus capitata and C. kousa angustata. There seem to be several botanical forms of this species but it is little known in cultivation in the U.S. or in Europe and there are questions regarding its cold hardiness as it is native to warm areas. Our friend Beatrice Chasse in France shared with us some seed obtained while on an expedition in Vietnam to collect oaks. Interestingly the seed were from the edible fruits her Vietnamese guides had obtained somewhere and were enjoying as a food item ! We have propagated this dogwood and invite folks to try it and let us know how it performs in various areas.
