Hickory, Mockernut

This hickory is a large deciduous tree with compound leaves which turn bright yellow in fall.  The hickory nuts are thick shelled,  hard to crack, and tedious to pick out but very tasty.  The tree has a narrow to broadly rounded crown and dark gray groovy bark. . A large tree, it needs space and a well-drained fertile soil.  Mockernut Hickory is native to the eastern U.S.
