Agave lophantha 'Splendida'
Century Plant 'Splendida'
This small bright green Agave with a white center stripe on the short, broad, toothed leaves is a selection of a species native to south Texas and Mexico. This smaller more compact clumping selection was found some years ago near Jacksonville, Florida by our friend Joe Levert of Augusta, Georgia who has an amazing collection of palms, citrus, and other subtropicals on the campus of Aquinas High School. Joe shared this plant with our friend Ted Stephens of Nurseries Caroliniana who named it 'Splendida' and is credited with having introduced it. Like most Agaves it is a plant for sunny well-drained sites. Height listed is for the plant but the flower stalk on Agave is very much taller.
