Acer saccharum 'Caddo'
The Caddo maple is a Sugar Maple from an isolated population in a canyon west of Oklahoma City in Caddo County, Oklahoma. It has been much heralded as a sugar maple for hotter and drier climates. Some consider it a form of the Southern or Florida Sugar Maple (Acer floridanum). It makes a great shade tree for well-drained fertile soils in the South. The fall color is predominately yellow but apparently some have orange to red fall color. The trees offered here are seedlings from a large specimen in Aiken, SC which was originally received as a gift from the late Texas plantsman Logan Calhoun of Dallas, TX
