Smaller than our native Catalpas, this Chinese species is an attractive and precocious to flower small tree. It has the same heart-shaped leaves and long slender pods as other Catalpa trees. The large upright clusters of one inch wide yellowish white flowers are in pyramidal panicles 4 to 10 inches tall. It is probably not attractive to the large Catalpa Worms which are prime fish bait and sometimes inhabit the native Catalpa trees. Plant in sunny location with moist fertile soil that is well-drained.
