Grevillea juniperina x rosmarinifolia 'Canberra Gem'
Canberra Gem Spiderflower
Commenting on this Australian shrub, Helen Johnstone writing for the Hardy Plant Society in England says: I think it is a pity this shrub isn’t grown more. I only became aware of it when reading Christoher Lloyd’s “Colour for Adventurous Gardeners” and it took some time to find a nursery that stocked it. I would recommend this plant to anyone with neutral to acid soil who is looking for a slightly unusual shrub which will also act as a statement plant but be prepared for people to ask you what your unusual conifer is! Of course it is not a conifer but the needle like evergreen leaves may fool some people. It is considered hardy for a Grevillea and the spidery rose-red flowers are very showy and unusual. It should have a sunny site with well-drained soil.
