Rhododendron austrinum hybrid 'Colonel Mosby'

Col. Mosby Azalea

This azalea is a cross between the azalea 'Hotspur Yellow' and the Florida Azalea (Rhododendron austrinum).  The large flower trusses have flowers that are dark pink with a yellow upper petal.  The petals are somewhat fringed.  It blooms in early mid-season and the flowers are fragrant.  This fine flowering shrub should be planted as other native azaleas in acid soil that is preferably sandy and well-drained but with adequate moisture and a mulch of pine needles.  It should have sun or semi-shade.  It is one of "The Confederate Series' from Dodd & Dodd Nurseries in Semmes, Alabama.
