Sweet Olive is an evergreen shrub with rather small serrated and pointed leaves. It bears clusters of small fragrant trumpet-shaped white flowers. This attractive shrub is surprisingly rare in cultivation. It is native to the Himalayas and southwest China and like most other Osmanthus species should do well in the southern U.S. Plant in sun or semi-shade where the soil is reasonably good and well-drained. We thank our friend Sean Hogan of Cistus Nursery in Portland, Oregon for sharing this plant with us.
