Hypericum edisonianum

Arcadian St. Johnswort

Colony forming shrub with upright stems bearing gray-green small leaves.  Stems are topped with 4 petal yellow flowers with numerous stamens.  Generally rare, this shrub is restricted to a few central Florida counties where it occurs in depressions, seeps, and ponds in scrub habitats where because of colonial habit it can be locally common.  Little-known in cultivation, it has proven hardy here in Aiken, South Carolina and might prove an interesting ornamental in moist depressions or sunny pond margins.
