Rhaphiolepis indica 'Ballerina'
'Ballerina' Indian Hawthorn
Indian Hawthorn and Yeddo Hawthorn (Rhaphiolepis indica and R. umbellata) have become very popular landscape plants in the southern U.S. These dense evergreen shrubs come in many named varities which vary in growth habit, size, and flower color. 'Ballerina' is a low, mounding variety with vibrant rosy pink flowers intermittently over the summer season. The foliage turns reddish color in winter. 'Ballerina' is a desirable ornamental for a sunny, well-drained site but R. indica is less cold-hardy than R. umbellata so should be used in zone 8-9.
