Itea yunnanensis

Yunnan Sweetspire
This Itea from Yunnan, China is an evergreen shrub similar to Itea chinensis except more low and spreading and with more leathery and darker green leaves that are somewhat holly-like on juvenile plants but with smooth edges on mature plants. The white flowers are in 4 inch racemes in spring. A rather new introduction probably first offered in the U.S. by Woodlanders. Has grown well here in South Carolina and in central Florida in moist woodland conditions.
