Ilex coriacea

Large Gallberry
Large Gallberry is a tall evergreen shrub found in wet acid soils in the Southeastern U.S. Coastal Plain where it often occurs with the related Inkberry Holly (Ilex glabra). It is usually a larger plant with larger and broader leaves and slightly larger black or purple berries (on female plants). It is seldom seen in cultivation but can be grown in the average southern garden if mulched and kept watered.
