Rhodoleia

Rhodoleia is a large evergreen shrub or small tree native to China.  It is a beautiful plant with thick, shiny, somewhat rounded  leaves that are glaucous underneath.  It has drooping rose-colored flower clusters in spring surrounded by multi-colored bracts.  It may make a good espalier plant.  It is related to Witchhazel and while rare in cultivation in the U.S. it has great potential as a landscape plant in the lower South where it should be planted as one would a Camellia.  Our stock was originally from the campus of the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL via our friend Bob Byrnes of Trail Ridge Nursery.
