Palm, European Fan
Chamaerops humulis is a fan leaf palm with spine margined petioles on deeply divided leaves. Usually multi-trunked but occasionally single stem. Old specimens may be taller than 15 feet. A neat and rather slow growing but relatively cold-hardy palm that is adaptable to a variety of site conditions. Native to southern Europe and North Africa. These plants are from our friend Joe Levert in Augusta, Georgia. Some may be the variety 'Arborescens' which grows taller and others the variety 'Vulcano' which can be dwarf.
