Forestiera godfreyi

Godfrey's Swampprivet

Godfrey's Forestiera is a deciduous shrub or small tree. The ovate leaves have pubescent lower surface and yellow fuzzy flowers appear in early spring on last season's twigs.  Female plants may bear small dark blue berries. This rare species is found on calcareous soils but it is adaptable to most garden soils.  Plant in the sun to part-shade.   Native to scattered sites in the Coastal Plain of South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.  Named for the late Dr. Bob Godfrey, Florida botanist and character.
