Buddleia cordata ssp. tomentella

Los Lerios Butterflybush

This is a large evergreen shrub with somewhat heart-shaped gray green leaves with lighter undersides. Originally it was collected by Yucca-do Nursery near Los Lerios, Cohuila, Mexico and originally offered by us a "Buddleia sp. "Los Lerios".  It's identity was cleared up for us by our good customer Dr. Jon Lindstom at University of Arkansas. It has been completely hardy here in zone 8. Plant in a sunny site with well-drained soil. Dense clusters of tiny greenish to creamy flowers are borne in summer at the ends of branches. Dr. Lindstrom says it resembles a sumac in effect.
