Coast Live Oak
Coast Live Oak is a medium size evergreen tree that is occasionally shrubby. It has rounded leaves that are somewhat holly-like and large long acorns. We have grown seedlings from trees planted in El Paso, Texas but not seen ithis California species grown otherwise east of El Paso. It is growing well here in South Carolina planted in sunny well-drained sites as required for many southwestern and California plants. A few of our plants are the variety from southern California known as Quercus agrifolia var. oxydenia but they do not seem clearly different.
