Camellia sasanqua x reticulata 'California Dawn'

Camellia 'California Dawn' Hybrid
Two species of Camellia are commonly grown in American gardens. They are Camellia japonica and Camellia sasanqua. There are countless varieties of each. This is a hybrid between Camellia sasanqua and the large flowered but rather tender Chinese species, Camellia reticulata. This showy hybrid is fall flowering with large light pink semi double to very loose peony type flowers with crinkle edged petals. This Camellia has grown and performed well in our garden. Camellias are best in semi-shade in sandy slightly acid soil which is kept mulched and watered.
