True Laurel or Bay

Laurus nobilis is the culinary Bay whose bay leaves are used for seasoning. This European evergreen shrub or small tree has been cultivated since ancient times. It is a good garden plant in the Deep South and suited to pot culture in the North. Best in a sunny location with neutral soil that is well-drained. This plant is often sheared or trained into topiary subjects.
