Leatherleaf

Chamaedaphne is a thicket forming low evergreen ericaceous shrub with leafy racemes of small white bell-like flowers.  It is native to the eastern U.S. where it grows in sandy, acid bogs.  It is a very cold-hardy evergreen shrub for gardens or rock gardens.  While primarily northern, it does range southward into coastal South Carolina.
