Amsonia ludoviciana

Louisiana Bluestar
This rare Bluestar is probably the best performing Amsonia for us. It is a robust perennial with pointed oval leaves that are white felty beneath. The blue star shaped flowers at the terminal ends of the upright stems are similar to other Amsonia. We obtained this plant years ago from Brookgreen Gardens here in South Carolina where it had been in cultivation since they received it from the famous botanist Dr. J.K. Small back in perhaps the 1920's. It was for awhile thought to be extinct in the wild but has since been rediscovered in Louisiana. Plant in sunny bed in well-drained soil.
