Woodlanders Bringing you the best in rare native and exotic plants since 1979

Woodlanders Celebrates Forty Years

When Robert & Julia Mackintosh founded Woodlanders and in 1980 published a small pamphlet listing the 85 kinds of plants they were offering for sale, their stated goals were  to seek out and propagate the beautiful but neglected plants of the southeastern United States, and to encourage their wider horticultural use.

Since that time, and from the same garden and nursery of less than two acres, Woodlanders has offered nearly 2,200 different kinds of plants from warm-temperate parts of the world to gardeners, collectors, arboreta and public gardens worldwide. Many of these special plants were previously unavailable for purchase in the retail nursery trade until offered by Woodlanders.

It has rarely, if ever, been an easy task. The 1981 Spring Catalog – published during the second year of operation - described Woodlanders as “a very small nursery trying to do what may be an impossible job.”

The job hasn’t changed, but four decades later we still are doing it. Or trying to!

So, thanks for being a part of it. Thank you for buying these special plants.

We will continue shipping plants until the end of April this year and encourage you to order for shipment now.

Our annual Open House & Plant Sale is scheduled for Saturday, April 11 through Sunday, April 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day. Hundreds of kinds of plants will be available for purchase.
